Specialized rehabilitation for adolescents aged 12–20 in Malawi struggling with addiction:

Substance addiction

Alcohol addiction, Nicotine addiction (tobacco/cigarettes), Cannabis (marijuana) addiction, Opioid addiction (including heroin, prescription medicine), Cocaine addiction, Methamphetamine addiction, Hallucinogen addiction (LSD, PCP, ketamine), Benzodiazepine addiction (anti-anxiety drugs), Caffeine addiction and Inhalant addiction (solvents, paint thinners)

Behavioral addiction

Gambling and betting addiction, Internet and social media addiction, Sex addiction, Shopping addiction, Video game addiction and Food addiction

Adolescent Focus

Tailored care for youth aged 12–20 stugggling with addiction together with their families

Expert Team

Multidisciplinary professionals comprising of a psychologist, an addiction nurse, psychosocial counsellor, social worker, rehab assistants
art and music therapits and pastoral care. During the program, adolescents will also have different activitie including
occupational therapy and also sporting activities

Community Care

The prevention program that is aimed at raising awareness about addiction and prevent misuse of substances that can lead to addiction which includes visiting schools, communities and preparing the community for reintegration of adolescents into the society.

Prevention Programs

STAR SECONDARY SCHOOL

PREVENTION SESSION: Conducted a presentation to over With a turn-up of more than 500 students and staff members. for effective communication the stundents were split into three groups A mental health club was formed.

MCHENGA UTUBA CDSS

PREVENTION SESSION: Conducted a presentation to over 450 students and staff members. A Mental Health Club was formed immediately with 38 students and a teacher volunteered as a matron.

Follow-up sessions were conducted to assess progress and guide club activities

NORTHERN HOSPITALITY COLLEGE

PREVENTION SESSION: Presented to at least 150 students across various programs. Mental Health club was formed immediately with 20 students who are meeting bi-weekly.

An Action Mental Health Club was established, with members requesting weekly Friday meetings.

KAUWA PRIMARY SCHOOL

PREVENTION SESSION: Conducted mental health, substance, and addiction awareness sessions. 200 students attended the awareness sesssions.

The school booked for additional sessions.

Team Building & Staff Wellness

The Mtendere team participated in a team-building and retreat at Lake Malawi, strengthening morale and teamwork.

The Birth of Mtendere Rehabilitation Center

The opening of Mtendere was symbolized by the planting of a tree, representing hope, growth, and new beginnings.

This was led by the co-founders Raphael Nyirenda and Sharlon Welleweerd.
